Basil is used extensively in tomato-based cooking as well as sauces, gravies, and poultry stuffing mixes.

Basil (Ocimum basilicum) is an annual herb of the mint family.  Although it is grown in limited quantities in California, the majority of Basil is imported from Egypt. The leaves are grayish-green, up to 2" in length and 3/4" in width.
